Life Update: Gone with the Old Year, in with the New Year

Hello again. Lots of updates in this entry. I’ll try to be brief about it.

I moved back in with my parents across the country back in late October. I’ve been spending the past few months since then settling back in and helping take care of my grandmother until her death in late December.

This was the first time I’ve dealt with the death of somebody so close to me; I suppose it’s fortunate that it took so long for me to experience this. It’s odd… I never had a great relationship with my grandma, especially when I was younger, but it is still crushing to know that she is gone forever.

It’s been over two weeks since she passed, and my family and I are doing a lot better. Things are starting to normalize again.

I also ended up giving my dog to my ex. I really miss her, but I keep reminding myself that it’s for the best. I’m glad my ex and I are on good terms now, and she can still be in my life. I miss seeing her rolling on her back and using her silly pawing to ask for attention and her little grumbles. I’ll give her lots of love and kisses the next time I see her.

Anyway, that was last year. I suppose timing is great because it’s easier to mentally put behind everything that has happened in the past year and start the new year with a clean slate. I’m looking forward now. I have plans and goals that I’ll share here.

My #1 goal this year is to be physically healthier, and as a result, mentally healthier. I want to establish a sleep routine that I can stick to, eat better, and exercise more.

I’ve been using the app, Noom, which I received a free subscription to from work. It’s helped a lot with my weight loss goals and tracking various other things, like meals, stress, and hydration. I also enjoy the lessons they offer and find them engaging. They prevent you from reading too much to keep you wanting more, and it really works (for me, anyway)!

As for sleep and exercise, I supposed they’re a bit tied together. I want to exercise more so I can be tired enough to get a good night’s sleep. And I want a good night’s sleep so I can be mentally sharp and energized throughout the day, so I can be more productive and do everything I want or need to do during the day. I (maybe impulsively) got a year’s gym membership and have gone four times so far. Hoping to manage going three times a week.

And sleep? Well that has and currently is a struggle. I’m trying to avoid screens by 8 PM, sleep by 9 PM, and wake up at 5:30 AM for work. Considering it is nearly midnight as I am writing this post, you can see I’m not very successful. Besides my obvious lack of discipline, my mind and body often refuses to fall and stay asleep when it needs to even with the help of melatonin. I’ve read several strategies and am trying to figure out something that works for me. Maybe when I find out, I’ll write a blog post about it.

Anyway, those are my main priorities for now; however, here are some goals I’m planning to accomplish this year. I have more than just these, but I’ll just list the main ones.

  1. Establish a side hustle and use the money to pay back my mom for my car loan.
  2. Go through my Udemy course for mobile app development and put something on the app store.
  3. Learn AWS and set up a new website using its services.
  4. Clean up the house of all my damn junk because they’ve all been sitting here since November.

I’m working on plotting all of my goals and plans to work on them on my calendar. Perhaps I’ll blog about them when I’m ready to. I wonder if I could keep up with blogging again? Maybe trying to write weekly? We’ll see.
